well gang, here's my latest offering, a short scale narrow necked guitar for a 7 year old son of a work collegue. The Oak back & sides were free. as was the mahogany for the neck & the walnut for the binding & bridge. All scrounged from my local friendly shop fitter....... The top is an AA spruce one from stewmac, (I asked for any with figure and they sent me a few goodies) fingerboard is maple cut at the 2nd, dots are turned from a rosewood offcut, and bracing was (believe it or not) the stick that a high-jump bar came taped to in the post!!! even after the tuners go in, and the bone nut & saddle, I reckon this'll have cost less than ?60 inc post for all the bits. cant be bad for that!! There are 2 coats of Danish oil on here, I think another 5 or 6 will see it strung up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I build 'em all quick Hesh, it keeps my mind occupied rather than thinking about what'll happen when my boss checks and sees how much time I spend building guitars.......... yup, Ron, it's a big cutaway. I could make up a load of bull about it allowing small hands easier access to the top frets, but it's not true!! I bent sides. then I bent a cutaway. then I held the cutaway bit against the side in the mould and moved it about til it looked about right. then I cut the bits & stuck 'em together. next one won't be so deep...... or maybe....... some day I'm gonna have to follow a plan of some sort!! ![]() |
